'A Holy and Vigilant Knight. She is blessed and charged by the heavens to protect the innocent. She is a paladin.'
We all have a need for heroes even as adults we yearn for something and someone better than ourselves. As a young girl I was captivated by tales of ordinary people who could become so much more. following them through their lives full of unpredictable twists and turns.
I read avidly and one of my favourite stories was `The Deeds of Paksionarrion` a trilogy by Elizabeth moon. This is a tale of a young heroine Paks, also the hero of the story, who overcame terrible adversity and her own shortcomings to become a peerless hero amongst her people. This character has always remained a firm favourite of mine and this picture was my attempt to capture the innocent wonder I felt as a child towards this literary character and heroine.
“We do not argue that war is better than peace; we are not so stupid as that. But it is not peace when cruelty reigns, when stronger men steal from farmers and craftworkers, when the child can be enslaved or the old thrown out to starve, and no one lifts a hand. That is not peace: that is conquest, and evil.”
― Elizabeth Moon, The Deed of Paksenarrion
