THE ACROPOLIS OF ATHENS

"There is but one entry to the Acropolis. It affords no other, being precipitous throughout and having a strong wall. The gateway has a roof of white marble, and down to the present day it is unrivalled for the beauty and size of its stones.”

PAUSANIAS, I, 24.4

THE PARTHENON by VULPA

The Parthenon has been admired for centuries, for its scale, symmetry and perfect proportions mesmerising those who travel the world to view its beauty. Its ancient edifice sits majestically atop the Acropolis towering over the Greek city of Athens. The ravages of time have taken its toll on the imposing structure but it has lost none of its appeal and charm.

This beautiful primary source drawing was made by the artist Vulpa on a visit to city, capturing her romantic vision to share with us all. To create this artwork the artist used pen & ink on Bristol board.
