DESCRIPTION
Antinoüs was the cherished companion and lover of the Roman Emperor Hadrian. Antinous was deified after his death in Egypt by the distraught Hadrian who erected numerous temples in his honour and even named a city after him. In the marbles from this period Antinous is depicted as a beautiful youth in the prime of life.
